Leadership Assessments
I recently took the Hogan Leadership Assessment. The results were an eerily accurate representation of my leadership style, complete with the identification of some real challenges that might be considered “blind spots.” These tools are valuable for increasing your self-awareness and continuing your growth.
I set extremely high standards for myself and take pride in demonstrating an extraordinary work ethic. In most cases, the people who work for me are about thirty years younger and often have different ideas about the role that work plays in their lives.
To be effective, I must learn to meet them where they are and motivate them differently. Trying to turn them into another version of me is like trying to teach a cat to water ski. It frustrates the cat, and you never accomplish the goal anyway. Trying to apply the same success formula that worked for me to the younger people in my office is not likely to work.
I highly recommend periodically making the investment in yourself and taking some form of leadership assessment. A good coach that can interpret the results for you is a big plus. As a leader, you must continue to grow and develop as well.
