Work
The start of a year presents an opportunity for new beginnings: a chance to reflect and set new goals. To do this effectively, we first have to assess where we are. The health, work, play, love model is a good tool for figuring out what needs to change.
Work is ultimately what most of us do every day, whether we are getting paid for it or not. Work is not just about your career, it includes volunteering, raising kids, household chores, etc. Since we spend most of our life working, it is a critical element in the assessment of our life. So how is it going?
Are you excelling at your work? Do you feel that you are growing and developing in this important dimension of life? Do you have a grand strategy for your life’s work? Is it being driven by purpose? Do you find meaning in it? Or does work consume more of your life than you would like?
As with health, the answers are up to you. A well-designed life is one of balance and proportionality. Some of us may need to increase our focus on career while others may need to gain some healthy perspective on where work fits into their dashboard. Take a hard look at how you are doing with work.
